Holiday

Letting you all know I'm taking a week off from this Blogging gig. I'll be working like crazy making young graduates look pretty for the first part of the week and traveling six hours (heaven help us!) to attend my niece's graduation for the last part of the week. Needless to say, I don't think I'll have time for blogging. Feel free to sharpen up your 80's movie knowledge for the next Say WHAT? I think it's going to be a doozie. Have a good week y'all!

Say WHAT?

It's Friday again and that means it's time for Say WHAT? The AMAZING 80's quote trivia game. In case you haven't played before, here is the down low – At the bottom of this post you will find a quote from an 80's movie. If you choose to play you must, without using the internet as a resource, guess which 80's movie the quote has been taken from. But here is where the rules have changed. If by Sunday we still don't have a winner anyone may go ahead and Google away. The first person to give the correct movie wins! Fun, huh? Leave your guesses in the comments section and if you are the first to correctly identify the quote, you win! I announce the winner on Sunday and that winner receives acknowledgment, linkage and if they have a profile picture I post that also. I recap the winner every Friday and include all of the aforementioned information. And hey, even if you don't know the answer just give me a shout out. I like to know who's stopped by!

Jenn
was quick last week and guessed the one that EVERYONE seems to know.

Time for today's quote. Don't forget to come back on Sunday (or maybe Monday if I'm lazy) to see if you are a winner. Have fun and good luck!

YouTubesday

I don't know how I missed hearing this song before but found it this week while going through Bjork videos. I think it might be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. Be patient the video gets more exciting.

While you are away
My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin
Our love
In a ball of yarn

He'll never return it

So when you come back
We'll have to make new love

For Pete's Sake!

(And no the bear was not strategically placed. That's just where I found it!)

This was the state of affairs I found Miss A in last night at approximately 11:00 PM. I am at a loss since she is getting out of her pajamas despite them being on backwards. The zipper is more at the side then the back but still... She hadn't figured out how to get out of her other couple of pairs but they are too hot for the summer. I have been looking for more zippered pj's but I'm having no luck. Anyone interested in getting together and inventing pajamas for kids that can get out of anything? I think there is a real market out there.

Today has already been rough and it's only 9:30. Perhaps because she normally isn't up until around now. There has been much crying and complaining. Here is photographic evidence. She looks a bit like Eliza don't you think?

To top it off she was 'helping' me with the laundry and because she is always moving at warp speed I didn't notice where she was and managed to smuck her in the head with the dryer door. Yay Mama! That was a classic move! Sigh.

My plan is to take her for a long walk this morning. With all the running back and forth to the hospital I haven't had any time for the gym this week. Blah!

Knee Update

Mom has another new knee. This surgery has gone far better than her last one. She is doing extremely well and I suspect the recovery will be much quicker this time. Unfortunately I am still consumed by stress, trying to run back and forth to the hospital as well as do all the other stuff that must be done. This includes arranging babysitting for next week when my work hours are all screwy due to the graduates of 2007 who are demanding that they have fancy hair! The nerve!

All in all though things are great. The fact that my mom is not in excruciating pain this time and also has not become depressed (yet) is wonderful.

Here we go Again!

My mom is having her other knee replaced this morning. All of you who remember the awfulness from last time will know I'm not looking forward to this. I'm taking her to the hospital in about 10 minutes. Prayers would be appreciated!

Jenn interrupted Bon's winning streak by correctly guessing 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'. A great movie. What more is there to say?

Bon googled last weeks quote and it led me to wonder if she had any competition. She may in fact, be tired of winning. Are you Bon?

Lionheart

Today I was going to post a picture of my cat, Casey. I was going to make fun of him because on Monday he went to the vet for his usual check-up, blood sugar check (diabetes, for those of you who don't know) and for a shave. You see in his old age he has become unable to care for his long luxurious fur as he once was. And the matted fur is much too horrible and plentiful for us to brush out. Thus the haircut. We have never had this done to him before. I can't believe how tiny he looks without the majority of his fur. And everyone always calls him fat! Sheesh. You and me both buddy. We're just fluffy!

But then on Tuesday afternoon I went downstairs to do some laundry. Casey was down there and when he tried to follow me up the stairs I noticed he couldn't do it. It was almost like his leg was broken or something. I carried him up and then watched as he struggled to get around the house. I called the vet and told them what was going on and they asked me to bring him right in. May I take the opportunity to complain about what a pain it is to drag a 25 pound kid and 20 pound cat to the vet? No? Fine.

Casey who normally greets everyone at the clinic with scary guttural sounds and much hissing – was silent. The staff, who has gotten to know us quite well since Casey's diagnosis, were very concerned about his silence. As they picked up his kennel to take him to the back Miss A grabbed the front cage with her tiny fingers and cried. It actually broke my heart a little when she did that. We pried her little vice grip off the kennel and I took her home to wait for the news.

I was certain we would have to go back later that day to have him put down. I was trying to prepare myself for what that was going to be like and I wasn't looking forward to it. Finally the vet called and explained what he suspected was going on. He said that there was nothing wrong with his legs just that he was basically acting intoxicated. He told me it could be a side effect from the sedative they'd given him in order to do the haircut. They could give him more counter agent and see if that helped.

From there the story gets a bit carried away. To sum up – he took a long time to get 'back to normal' which was partial compounded by his diabetes. He spent the night and most of today there but he is home now and seemingly himself again. So many times I get frustrated with him, his incessant meowing, his tendency to get right underfoot but the truth is I'd miss him so much if he wasn't around. A missed him. She kept babbling and saying the word 'kitty' all day.

He is a member of our family and we're glad to have him home.

More Addictive than Crack Cocaine

Facebook. Have you heard of it yet? Chances are either you have already joined or you have had a hundred emails from people inviting you to join. Honestly I really don't know whether or not to tell you to join up or to “Run. Run and never look back!” A friend 'invited me to join' a couple of months ago. I was thinking, “What is this? I have to join some group to look at pictures of her new baby?” But I did it anyway. And I thought I'd never use it. And I didn't at first. I'm not sure when I went overboard but I finally started to see it's merits. Randomly typing in people's names and finding them. Requesting that they 'be my friend'. Then people started to find me. Then it was all over before the end of the first round.

I'm not sure I can properly explain what it is and how it works. You have your own facebook page on which you can put as much or as little information about yourself as you like. You can upload pictures and make albums which your friends are able to peruse and make comments on if they like. You have a 'wall' which is viewable to anyone who can see you page. This is where people leave comments for you like “Hey! How's it going? I haven't seen you in forever!!” Another cool feature is that you can send a message to your friends, which is basically an email sent through the facebook program. If the friend you are sending the message to happens to be on their facebook page at the time they will get it immediately and possibly send a message right back which then makes it a lot like instant messaging which is also cool. You also get updates on what your friends are doing and any pictures they upload. Am I selling this?

Why you ask? The only thing I can say is that seeing my friends faces filter through my friend display window makes me think “Hey! Look, it's so and so. I should really send them a message.” So in a way, it forces you to be a good friend and keep in touch. And makes it more convenient to do so.

You know what I think would be really cool? If all of my good bloggy friends (you know who you are!) who know me and know I'm not actually a 50 year old man posing as a young mother to talk to other young moms, would sign up for facebook and be my 'friend's. That way I could keep in even better touch with you. We could possibly get to know each other even better, although that's hard to imagine since I write way more personal stuff on my blog than I do on my facebook. So if you're interested just send me an email about it. Come on. If you have a blog you're pretty much a computer geek already. The next step is to get on facebook.

A Fair Time

So we took Miss A to the Fair on Saturday evening. We met one of my coworkers there whose son is four. He was her ride buddy. Although I had been excited about going I was also nervous. Was she going to have a fit after every ride? Was it going to be one big fight after another?

Thankfully, it was not. We did have some outbursts, yes. While standing in line for our first ride, the Carousel, she nearly clawed my eyes out. But once she got a taste for the sweet, sweet riding... we were pretty much good. Just as I suspected, she had no fear. We went on the swings together and then her and T her riding buddy went on a Jeep ride and she rode on the back of his motorcycle while he kept popping wheelies. In between smiles she seemed to spend a lot of time staring at the 'guts' of the ride and was trying to figure out how it all worked. I have my suspicions that she may grow up to be an engineer.

The Petting Zoo was also a hit. She loved the baby chicks and ducklings. She saw kittens for the first time which must have been shocking since our cat weighs nearly 20lbs. I think she enjoyed the baby goats or 'kids' the best. She ran around to each of them and pet them on their backs. Unfortunately I didn't seem to be able to catch this with my camera. This is the best I could do.

We each enjoyed this part the best. I because it was an enclosed area so I just had to make sure she didn't scale the fence to escape. And she enjoyed climbing on the hay bales as much as seeing the animals.

We also sampled some classic 'Fair Food' such as the hot dog and the mini donut. (Okay, I sampled many of these!) All in all we had a pretty fabulous time and her behavior was as near to angelic as it ever is. We captured almost everything on video but not enough on camera. It's difficult to capture people when they're whizzing by. And Miss A is pretty much always whizzing around whether she's on a ride or not.

I'm thinking if the Fair was so fun this year I can't imagine how much better it will be next summer.

Hello???

Thank you Bon for Googling. And congratulations once again! Not to take anything away from you hot streak of wins but have you been getting the feeling that no one else is really playing? I mean, you know, not no one but that you don't have a lot of competition. Anyway, whatever. I totally cool with you winning every week. Just think of it as me personally quizzing you each week.

I have to thank Kristen for her guess. I had never heard of 'The Toy' and in fact I thought "Did she mean 'Toys' with Robin Williams? But it wasn't an 80's movie." And then I looked it up and found it is indeed an 80's movie starring Richard Pryor. When I asked my husband if he'd heard of it he said "Of course!" as though I was the stupidest person alive. I don't know how I missed it. So in the true spirit of this game - you educated me on an 80's movie that I haven't seen. Bravo. And thanks for stopping by.

So here is a montage I found of 'Real Genius'.

The Night I Was Voluntarily Molested By A Dog

I volunteered for the Lung Association to canvas my block. Before you say “Aw! That's awesome!” let me just confess that they called me up to ask me to do it and before I even remember saying yes the lady was thanking me for volunteering. I procrastinated until it was nearly too late. Peter made a joke that if I didn't collect any money for them they'd harvest one of my lungs. So finally we set out going door to door. I thought Peter and the baby might be a cute factor that would soften hearts and cause people to be more generous. Wrong. She refused to stay in her stroller and wanted to come door to door with me and when I wouldn't let her walk right into their houses to make herself at home she would have a screaming meltdown. I think the first few donations were not the result of softened hearts but of them wanting me to please take a hike and not to forget to take my noisy brat with me when I did. Once this happened a couple of times Peter and A just carried on to the park while I stayed behind to finish the job.

I was off to a fantastic start with a fifty dollar donation from a lovely retired teacher who lives just across the street from us. Next I went to the house of a neighbor that I've hardly seen and don't know at all. He answered the door holding his cute but energetic and 'friendly' dog by his collar. As I explained why I was at his door his dog, whose collar my neighbor had released, proceeded to forcefully thrust his snout into my crotch (I'm sorry I know it's an awful word) as I unsuccessfully tried to protect myself. He then went around behind me and did the same to my rear end. My neighbor mildly scolded his dog, telling him to 'stop'. To give him the benefit of the doubt, I think the dog may have been deaf.

In the end he gave me a five dollar donation which he thankfully didn't want a receipt for because that would have required the use of both hands there by leaving me defenseless against his dog's repetitious 'advances'. I left my neighbors home feeling dirty and used and wondering why the heck someone would allow their pet to do that to anyone, even their worst enemy or someone coming to their door asking for money. My only consolation was knowing that the retelling of the story may give all of my lovely readers a chuckle out there in blogland...

Surprise!!

I don't know if you all know my blogging friend Bon. She has had a rough time lately. But recently has some things to celebrate. Like sleeping in her own bed again. It got me thinking. What could I do, way over here in Canada to welcome her home? And then it occurred to me. I could sing!

Peter and I stayed up ridiculously late singing, filming and editing this crazy video. There are some pretty funny parts. Like in the middle I say 'blah, blah' when there's no singing. Sorry the audio isn't very good. Turns out the microphone that comes with the game must suck. It sounded good to us through the camera but then when we hooked 'er up I was all quiet sounding. Maybe that's not such a bad thing. Hope you like it anyway.

So here goes. Bon, this is for you baby!

Visiting

This weekend we went to visit some friends in the city. We had an absolutely lovely time. I hadn't seen my friend 'M' in so long and it always amazes me how we are so easy with each other as though no time has passed at all. She has the sweetest little boy who is so gentle and kind. I think Miss A kind of overwhelmed him what with her running around yelling, squealing and dangling from death defying heights. They seemed to get along though and the two of them had the cutest little kiss before bedtime.

And thankfully it turned out that I worried for nothing about her disrupting their whole household routine and everyone's ability to sleep. A little time spent laying with her on a bed in the room she slept in and she was out like a light and didn't make a peep till morning. Hurray.

She also had nice naps on the way in and out the city. We took this picture in my friend's driveway right after we arrived.

AAAHmazing!

Wow! Bon is amazing! I have actually lost count of how many weeks she has won in a row and I am too lazy to look it up. At least four I think. And not only did she win but she was also inspired to re-watch one of the best movies of all time. And THAT is one of the main reasons I started hosting this game. To get people to watch movies that I love. Although since I've been hosting the game for so long now some of the movies I choose are not my favorites or even one's I've seen. But I digress.

This is a good compilation of scenes from the party in 'Say Anything'.
