Say WHAT?

It's Friday again and that means it's time for Say WHAT? The AMAZING 80's quote trivia game. In case you haven't played before, here is the down low – At the bottom of this post you will find a quote from an 80's movie. If you choose to play you must, without using the internet as a resource, guess which 80's movie the quote has been taken from. But here is where the rules have changed. If by Sunday we still don't have a winner anyone may go ahead and Google away. The first person to give the correct movie wins! Fun, huh? Leave your guesses in the comments section and if you are the first to correctly identify the quote, you win! I announce the winner on Sunday and that winner receives acknowledgment, linkage and if they have a profile picture I post that also. I recap the winner every Friday and include all of the aforementioned information. And hey, even if you don't know the answer just give me a shout out. I like to know who's stopped by!

Jenn
was a winner again last week.

Time for today's quote. Don't forget to come back on Sunday (or maybe Monday if I'm lazy) to see if you are a winner. Have fun and good luck!

"Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK? You think I'm qualified?"

I'm Okay!

I'm glad that people care when I'm not around. Just letting everyone know I'm fine, I'm here. I had an old friend visiting from out of town. I haven't seen her in about ten years at least. We spent a lot of time talking, laughing and catching up. We also had to look after A in the process which sometimes put a damper on the visiting but hey, that's life with kids!

And I have rearranged my work schedule so that I can take this course. Last night was my second class. It was my first day back at work after holidays and then a three hour class on anatomy and physiology... Blah.

Anyway, there will be a Say WHAT? tomorrow as per usual and all should be back to 'normal' next week.

Classic Winner

This seems to be another popular one that everybody knows. Jenn was the first to ring in though. Die hard fans should really watch the movie with commentary sometime. It's really interesting.

Anniversary Bliss

Our weekend getaway went even smoother than we could have expected. We got away a bit earlier than expected. My brother dropped by with the car seat he borrowed already installed. We gave our kisses and hugs and "I love you's" and off they drove without a single tear from any of us. Okay, I might have been a bit misty.

We packed our cooler and luggage into the car and we were off. It was a gorgeous sunny fall day and we reminisced about our wedding day. How we couldn't believe it had been five years already and how it had been a bit warmer the day we were married. The hour drive passed quickly, almost too quickly. And before we knew it we were at our cabin.

It was nicer than I expected although I'd hoped it would be. Peter was pleasantly surprised. He thanked me for planning everything and "all my attention to detail". It reminded me of our honeymoon when we arrived at the cabin we rented and he was blown away by how nice everything was.

We had dinner reservations that evening. It was nice to enjoy a meal and not have to rush home for any reason. We had rented three movies to bring along with us. We watched the first 'Mr. Fix It' on our first night. TERRIBLE. It had a few redeeming qualities. We wished we could take the movie remove the crap and make it decent because it definitely had potential.

The next day we tried to sleep in... Weren't overly successful. We rented some fantastic bikes and went for a gorgeous ride on a trail right alongside the lake. It was beautiful.

We watched 'Borat' in the afternoon. I spent a good portion of it like this because I was so horrified.

We barbecued for supper and watched the remaining movie 'Zodiac' It was so long we didn't make it through without me falling asleep. We turned in and watched the rest during breakfast. And just like that the weekend was over, we had to start cleaning up, packing up and heading for home.

We had a lovely time. It was so nice to have some time alone together, to be able to do things at our own pace. To watch adult television. To go to bed and get up when we chose to. I think we mutually decided our almost ;) favorite part was sitting in the tub together reading for long periods of time. (For those of you who care I was re-reading this and he was reading this. How cool is that?!)

I have to admit as nice as it was to get away we were both really excited to see A. And we were relieved to find out she'd done brilliantly while we were away. She was happy to see us as well and seems to enjoy our presence now that we are back. We have one more week of holidays to spend together now until it's back to the usual grind. We'll make the most of it.

What a Winner Looks Like

Jenn was the fastest this week. Because EVERYBODY knows this movie. Here is a great video I found. The song used gives the film a whole new feel.

The dress at 3:21 was the inspiration for my wedding dress.

And for the sake of nostalgia...

Say WHAT?

***Happy Anniversary to me! My darling husband and I are off for two days - baby free - to celebrate five years of marriage. I'll look forward to coming back to see who this weeks winner is!

Elizasmom
won again last week. I thought she might be a David Bowie fan...

The Party

I can't really believe I survived it. Not just the party but the first 2 years of A's life. Actually I can't believe either of us survived the night before her birthday.

Being the moron that I am I stayed up until 2:00 AM doing that crazy montage of pictures. I intended to write a heartwarming post to go with it but... that didn't happen. I hauled my butt to bed and at approximately 3:25 AM A was crying. I took care of thing and put her back to bed. More crying which I ignored for a while thinking that she'd fall asleep as per usual. Didn't happen. We tried rocking. She wanted no part of it. I put her back down. No dice. Finally we went and lay on the couch and I put on Baby Galileo. (Most excellent for dozing while your child sits quietly, mesmerized.) I put her back to bed when it was over. (5:30 AM) She began to cry again a few minutes later. I was exhausted. We both fell asleep soon after but Peter accidentally woke me up a while later and I realized that I was dreaming that she still wasn't sleeping. We did get a bit more sleep and then began the hectic day.

I as so grateful that Peter is on holidays with me. He helped so much when I was feeling overwhelmed by all the stuff I had to do. I actually feel pretty relaxed now. The Elmo cake turned out pretty well. Having a special cake pan made it pretty easy. I was really hoping A would see the cake and say "Oh! La La!" but she didn't have a chance since her cousins piped up too quickly informing her of who it was. Still, she seemed to appreciate him.

Last year we just had a small family get together. This year I invited a few of her friends. It made for a much bigger deal as well as so many presents. Lovely presents but a new job has been created for me. Packing away other toys to make room for new ones...

Happy Birthday Miss A

More Holidaying

Fence update.

It's pretty much done now though. Just a few finishing touches. So. Nice. I can't wait to go outside and not have to chase A back into the yard...

We went to visit our friends today. They live on a farm about an hour and a half away. I called the trip an early birthday present to A. She loves animals. Loves making animal noises. We had a nice time. She and my friend's son seemed to have a great time together. They would be great partners in crime. Both equally unafraid to try anything.

And I was yet again impressed (although I would have been happy to have intervened if possible before each thing happened) by Miss A's toughness. She got a little too close to the chickens and was pecked on the hand. She cried but stopped almost immediately when I picked her up and was still fascinated by them. She also went in with the other game chickens (much tamer and nicer) after she was pecked only being careful to hold her hands close to her body.

Sadly the other 'accident' was when she wandered off when we were getting stuff out of the garden and touched the electric fence. Yeah. I know. I suck. In my defense I didn't even notice the fence until it was too late. Again though, she cried until I picked her up and soon after stopped. I swear that the only reason she even cries is because she's so angry that something caught her off guard that way, not because it hurt very much. The look in her eyes after both incidents was pure outrage not pain.

Despite those events she had a great time, as did we. Miss A loved their doggie to death. I think he enjoyed her as well. And I'm pretty sure she made a little friend today...

Holiday?

Peter and I are on two weeks holiday. Peter and my boss (jack of all trades) have been working building a fence in our backyard since Saturday evening. They have been putting in long hours. Turns out that rocks get in the way of digging deep holes. Here is a photo in the early stages. It is nearly finished now so I'll post some more when I get a chance.

I don't know if it has anything to do with her second birthday or if it's teething or what but Miss A has been unbelievable lately. I have talked about her temper before. I WISH I could go back to those days. I have seen a new kind of fury and it scares me. For Real.

Time for today's quote. Don't forget to come back on Sunday (or maybe Monday if I'm lazy) to see if you are a winner. Have fun and good luck!

YouTubesday

Peter introduced me to this little gem. It's got everything. Humor, a pretty girl, a fantastic video, great music, a gorgeous voice, that irresistible accent, wicked clothes... I could go on but I'll stop.

Your welcome.

No Doubt

Last night I took Miss A to be registered for dance class. At first I was a bit uptight since of course she refused to stand beside me, she had to be running around through the various adjoined dance studio rooms. A slightly older girl seemed to get a kick out of her and kept tabs on her while I waited in line and then filled out the paperwork.

She is enrolled in a toddler ballet/tap combo class. I also had to pick up ballet and tap shoes and luckily they have used ones on hand to buy for a reasonable price. Trying on these shoes stopped A in her tracks. She was thrilled with the tap shoes and once they were on she stood in front of the vast wall of mirror and tapped her feet on the floor while also swaying her hips. Then she noticed a ghetto blaster and attempted to turn it on for musical accompaniment. Everyone beamed at her.

This continued when we went to the dance store to buy her tights and bodysuit. We tried the bodysuit on over her onesie and she wouldn't let us take it off. She was prancing around in her shoes. There was also a bunny rabbit about her height that was dressed as a ballerina. It spent a great deal of time as her dance partner.

The thing I couldn't figure out was when we first arrived at the studio she was saying "I wanna dance, I wanna dance." as if she knew. But I have to wonder how? I guess I don't give her enough credit. All I know is that I no longer have any doubt that I should put her into dance class. It was only a matter of time.

Things have been a bit hairy around here lately so I'm feeling a little slack in the blogging department.

Peter sprained his ankle on Thursday. It was one of those great things that happen. I can only imagine. He was hurrying to get Miss A to the babysitter so he could be on time for his massage appointment (I know, I was shocked too) when he accidentally locked his keys in the house. That meant no car keys and no house keys. He thought fast and strapped A to her bike seat while he broke in through the window. Flawless plan. Except for the slipping part. And the falling part. And the twisting the ankle part. He was worried but brushed himself off and successfully broke in on his next try. He was able to walk (limp) on it and make it to the appointment after all. He also managed to work Friday although I'm not sure how. Good timing for a long weekend. I tried to nurse him back to health as much as I was able to.

And then there was yesterday. The day when I truly realized my daughter's potential to be a criminal. You see for the past few weeks I have been getting lazy with the measures I use to keep her in her pajamas. I have still been putting them on backwards but she had made no attempt to remove them for some time. I got into the habit of not bothering the extra precaution of safety pinning as well.

BIG MISTAKE!

It was all a trick. A well planned scheme. A joke on me. For shame.

She was in her bed yesterday afternoon for the duration of her intended nap. Peter and I also dozed but I was well aware that she was not sleeping. This is becoming a regular occurrence lately much to my chagrin. When I finally went in to rescue her from the confines of her crib - OH THE HORROR. The nudity. the poo.

The best thing I can say is that everything was washable. And 45 minutes later the only trace of the incident was the faint odor in the air. Which I then killed with fresh air and air freshener.

I have pictures on file when I am need of the most evil blackmail material ever.

I have learned my lesson. Never. Trust. Again.

How can someone so cute be so... naughty?

First Timer

My good friend mns won Say WHAT? this week by guessing the line from 'Karate Kid'. Peter and I just watched this movie a couple weeks back. I think it has actually gotten better with time...
