Boys and War Movies

I had a feeling either Omar or The Big Fugr were going to get my quote this week but I was ready to be surprised and impressed that one of my female readers would know a war movie quote. But I found my suspicions were correct once I saw that Omar recognized the character 'Animal Mother' from 'Full Metal Jacket'.

This movie is one of Peter's favorites. I love Matthew Modine and don't mind a good war movie every now and then. Vincent D'Onofrio is amazing in this movie. Why that man has never won an Academy Award I don't understand, honestly.

I can't seem to stomach anything with much violence since having A so I don't know if I'll be able to watch these sort of movies anymore. Not such a bad thing I suppose. The last movie I saw was wonderfully fluffy and made me laugh out loud several times. I guess I'll stick with those kinds of films at least until my actual life is a bit less tense.

A couple of other classic movie quotes about war:

“The ultimate ideal for a warrior is to lay down his sword.”
Hero (2002) – Nameless (Jet Li)

“Heroes are something we create, something we need. It's a way for us to understand what is almost incomprehensible, how people could sacrifice so much for us, but for my dad and these men, the risks they took, the wounds they suffered, they did that for their buddies. They may have fought for their country but they died for their friends.”
Flags of Our Fathers (2006) – James Bradley (Thomas McCarthy)

One of my faves too. Very good, but very depressing.
