More Twilight Related Drivel

So I was sitting at my third viewing (that's right, lets just establish I'm a dork/freak and be done with it, shall we?) of New Moon on Tuesday and couldn't help but notice the kinship I felt with Robert Pattinson. I think it was specifically apparent this time because of my viewing companions. They were heavy with the appreciation on Jacob Black/Taylor Lautner. Not that I didn't appreciate him, and I will say I sympathized with his character in this movie more than I ever did while reading the book where I was all blah, blah, blah, you're nice or whatever but where's Edward? Honestly though, I found his body kind of distracting in a freakish kind of way. His abs looked like six grapes bunched together under his skin and his traps were like, up to his earlobes! I kept whispering to Peter "Dude! His traps are CRAZY!!" which I hope he didn't misconstrue as "which is hot!" because is was more like "He looks like some sort of mutant." Many people have been confessing their guilty (due to his age) love of him and while I think he is adorable if I have to choose a wolf I firmly choose Paul/Alex Meraz (on the far right).

ANYWAY, It really struck me during the Edward reveal part (which after seeing on the big screen I am forced to admit that perhaps his "abs" were enhanced in some way as they were rumored to have been, even so, I don't care!) when my friend muttered "His body just doesn't look as good as Jacob/Taylor's does." to which I replied very defensively - "He's genetically incapable of achieving that physique, and he more than makes up for it with his brilliance in all other areas!" Sensitive? Yes, I do believe I am. On his behalf and mine.

It's pretty obvious that Robert (and his trainer) put a lot of hard work and time into making him look that great and as he adorably told Ellen DeGeneres it's the best his body has ever looked and he was proud of himself. He'll never achieve the results Taylor has no matter how hard he tries and shouldn't be held up to that standard anyway. I personally feel his pain since my own hard work gives me subtle visible results and I must settle for the knowledge that my heart and lungs are strong even if my body doesn't appear to be 'fit' when compared with the general standard of what that looks like according to society/the media.

In a nutshell, Robert and I are kindred spirits in that we are expected to look different than we were ever designed to and if we held ourselves up to those standards we could never hope to succeed. Also, we are both awesome.

The Only 33 Year Old Sobbing in the Theater

In approximately six and a half hours I should be watching the opening credits to New Moon. In all of my excitement leading up to it's release I think I failed to consider one thing. That thing is the emotional devastation I am likely to experience during the film. Somehow the hype had totally distracted me from the memory of first reading the book and how I spent a good 100 pages of it in a weeping, blubbering, sobbing state. I'm not exaggerating. It wasn't until today when I thought about the fact that seeing this all come to life on film may in fact be worse than reading it was. (I do doubt this, but you never know) I am comforted by the fact that I'll likely be surrounded by over one hundred emotionally fragile teenagers who will likely be hysterical. My sobs will almost certainly go unnoticed, except by my husband who will quietly squeeze my hand and wonder to himself how he ended up being dragged into this whole phenomenon. My answer to him would be "Because you are a better man than most." While some people are annoyed by the crowds and the fact that the majority are so young, I find it entertaining. I giggle when I hear the cheers and gasps as the male leads appear on screen. I enjoy the whole experience. I can't wait.

I'm polling my two readers. Shall I write a review? Yes? No? I mean, we all know what happens right so what could I possibly spoil?

You Said You Wanted To Know

We are home from our Coldplay adventure. I call it an adventure because it involved a lot of jumping through hoops to get our kids settled and happy with their respective caregivers. Those hoops mostly involved packing and traveling since both girls LOVED who they were with. I feel satisfied and content today which is nice because it is common for me to experience post concert depression. (That may be Cure related) It may just be because I'm older now.

Where to begin? Our seats. Our seats we decent. Any of you familiar with the size of a hockey rink would understand the distance. While the band played where one net would sit we were sitting behind the net on the other side. If it had been a hockey game the seats would have been excellent. As it was, they were too far away to see facial expressions with the naked eye. Thank heaven for the screens. I was fascinated by the fans. Perhaps because I am used to this and the majority of the people at this concert looked like this only dressed down a little. Seriously it was the weirdest mix. There were A LOT of guys/men, for some reason I wasn't expecting that. There was a wide range of ages.

One thing almost everyone had in common was the desire to consume alcoholic beverages. I myself am not much of a drinker but I can solidly say that if I was I would abstain so that I could absorb Coldplay in full without the hindrance of intoxication. I mean, really. I think I can understand drinking at say, an ACDC concert or something. That kind of makes sense to me. Perhaps it lubes the joints for headbanging? But at a Coldplay concert? Is it really necessary? I don't think it is. By the end of the concert there were people stumbling (dancing) around in the floor seats and I am certain that they missed a great deal of the awesomeness.

The opening bands were Howling Bells and Snow Patrol. Howling Bells were AWESOME! I especially think Bon, AM and Beth would enjoy. Check this out! They unfortunately did not get projected on the screen so I had to rely on youtube once I got home to really see them. They did however have exaggerated rock star moves so that helped. Their sounds was kind of goth I thought which of course ranked them #1 for the opening bands in my book! Snow Patrol were good, not so much my thing, but undeniably talented. During this song which I'm most familiar with I kept expecting them to project images of Meredith and Derek making out or something. Even though I didn't totally dig them the lead singer (who looks remarkably like Jamie Kennedy) had this terrific smile which kinda melted my heart and made me like them more than I actually did.

Then it was time for Coldplay. The energy in the room was tangible. Electric. I wish I could remember every song they played and in which order but I can't so I'll just tell you about the most memorable parts... The crowd of course went nuts when they came on stage and they were even more amazing live than they sound on their albums. In fact, though admittedly I think that Viva La Vida is their weakest album and my least favorite, hearing them play songs from it live really turned me (and Peter, who I think actually used the word hate to describe how he felt about that album) around. We are both convinced that they have begun to write songs/albums that are meant to be played/heard live in a large venue. The album just doesn't do them justice.

I was very grateful for the screens which allowed me to appreciate the band and their mad skilz. (Those guys are ridiculously talented, it's no joke.) Sometimes the guys in charge got a little crazy though and the images flashed and changed so fast you couldn't really take them in. There were also lasers and other effects. If I happened to be susceptible to seizures I think I'm pretty sure I would have had one. They also had these really neat globe like screen which they also projected stuff on. It was pretty cool. At times when everyone was singing together it reminded me of soccer chanting. I remarked to Peter that there must have been more good singers than poor ones because everything sounded pretty good. I looked out into the sea of people and was frequently astounded.

Some of the high points... Yellow. It was completely dark and then as the song started yellow lights exploded on and they brought out a dozen enormous yellow balloons which the crowd began to bat around. (I found the balloons a tad annoying, um excuse me, I can't see Chris Martin!) I was astounded by the amount of energy that Chris Martin has. I'm not sure if it's an act but he seems pretty uncoordinated too so he sort of flails himself around the stage and I was honestly concerned for his safety at some points. I really hope he does yoga or something to stay limber otherwise he's probably really sore the day after a show. They played a really bizarre set where they played a medley of songs from 'Parachutes' 80's style. There were also times when Chris would play his piano and get into these David Helfgott moments very similar to what you see here at 2:27 only minus the cigarette. Basically, he seemed a little nuts. And yet, for some reason, this made me love him more.

Are you ready for the best part? Are you? Is anyone still reading??? About an hour and a half into the concert I am nudged by my friend who is excitedly pointing off to the not so far distance. I follow her finger clueless and shrug, thinking "What could be so important that you have taken my attention from the stage!" And then she shouts "A microphone!" Oh! There is a microphone and they are taping off a small area, like 12 feet from where we were. A few minutes from then they began to run down off the stage and up towards us and the next thing we knew there they were, close enough to spit on. It was completely surreal. Seeing someone you've only ever seen in videos and interviews on television, standing right there in front of you. I just kept thinking, "Wow, he's a real and actual person and he's standing right there, breathing the same air. God, he has beautiful eyes." Among others, they sang this song, which I have always said was written about me. (totally flattering!) I also found myself thinking about his wife and his family and how they were so far away. It made me feel so grateful that my husband wasn't a rock star, that he was standing right there with me, holding my hand.

Something I anticipated was this part but I had no idea how it would make me feel when it happened. I don't understand why seeing a million little paper butterflies floating around that made my heart hurt but it did. This is probably the best quality video that best represents what it was like to be there, oh except for the Jay Z part. It was worth every penny and if I ever have the opportunity to see them again I would do it in a heartbeat.

Love, Obsession and Loyalty

Once upon a time I was fifteen and I saw this video. I'd never seen or heard anything like it. I was in love. That was it, there was no going back. I've talked about this before. How my love for that band, that individual was so much a part of me as I grew up. They took their place as my favorite band ever and have remained there ever since.

Fast forward eight years. I was Twenty-three. I saw this video. This lanky cute boy, walking on the beach in the rain as the sun began to rise. I had goosebumps. I was not surprised to find out that they were British, anglophile that I am. They became the only band to ever achieve a solid second spot on my favorite band list. There are only those two spots, favorite, next favorite, and everything else.

I have seen The Cure twice in concert. Minneapolis in 1996 and Toronto in 2000. My seats at the first were terrible. I had to borrow someones binoculars at one point just to get a proper glimpse of Robert Smith. It didn't matter though because I was nineteen, it was my first concert and my favorite band. My seats were slightly better in 2000. It bugged me because I was twenty-three and didn't have gobs of money to spend on a plane ticket and concert tickets for my friend and I but I did it because I loved them. *Sidenote: How exactly does one acquire, like, amazing seats? It just seems like an impossibility to me. I can't help but be annoyed with the people who end up right in the front row. They are always either complete idiots or people who look completely bored and like they don't want to be there.

I am older now. And how do you say? Ah yes, POOR. It is impossible for me to fly somewhere just to see a band I really dig. And generally the bands I like never come nearby. Yet, by some miracle I will be going to see Coldplay tomorrow night. I'm not exactly sure what our seats will be like but they aren't front row. Pfft! Arranging to go has been a bit of a logistical nightmare. Miss A is having a sleepover with my wonderful sister and Baby B is coming with us to the city and then staying with our friends for the evening while we are at the concert and then we will sleep (or maybe not with the incredible waking baby) over at said friends because we are how do you say? Ah yes, OLD. We refuse to drive home in the wee hours of the morning. No matter, I will be seeing my second ranked band in concert. The best part? Peter is coming with me. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing either of the other aforementioned concerts with him so this will help to make up for it. We were singing this song together in the car on the way home tonight. It just also happens to be a really awesome video too. If you haven't seen it before and get bored, it get's really crazy at 2:52.

Gratuitous Twilight Post

I had to do this. I had to. I've been so good. Not writing about Twilight related things on my blog that is supposed to be about my adventures as a mother and not my obsessions. But then I saw this. And more specifically, THIS. And well. I'm sure most of you understand. I mean. COME ON!!

Hormones aside though, I have to say how relieved I am! I mean, I was tremendously disappointed when his shirt was open a crack in Twilight as he was showing her how his skin looked in the sunlight and then in the meadow his shirt was buttoned up to his chin. And I was disappointed, not because I'm a perv, but because it's such a pivotal part in the book and changing it annoyed me to no end. I discovered this was because even though he worked really hard at getting into "Edward shape" it just didn't work out. He joked about it a lot during interviews and also while doing the commentary for Twilight.

I was wondering what they were going to do in the upcoming films when it would be inevitable that he be shirtless at times. I mean, if it was genetically impossible for him to attain a six pack then they'd just have to bite the bullet and not worry so much about his body. And really, who cares? Sure he'd look different than how he's described in the book but how bad could it be? Now it's clear that he just had a crap personal trainer for the first movie. Or perhaps, the powers that be just knew that they could whip one up by the second film but not the first so they just hid him. It would be pretty strange if his body changed dramatically from one film to the next, given that he's a vampire and all.

Whatever. I'm just glad. I'm glad for him actually. He's hardly in 'New Moon' and Taylor's rockin' these. Although I don't buy all the tabloid garbage that there's FEUDING! and JEALOUSY! I still think it's gotta be intimidating when your seventeen year old costar looks like this and you are just a scrawny British dude who's shirtless scenes were deleted from Twilight. I'm pretty glad for me too.

The Trickle Down Effect

I know it's painfully obvious to everyone who reads my blog that I have a serious obsession with Twilight. From the videos to the posts to the countdown widget. What I hadn't realized was the trickle down effect this would have on Miss A.

When the full trailer came out Peter was kind enough to transfer it to our DVR. Let's just say it was watched several times. With different people who happened to be over and were interested. Like, my sister, my niece, friends. It wasn't an overly scary trailer so I didn't mind if Miss A watched it. She pays attention to everything in great detail. So I shouldn't have been surprised when she started asking to see the 'Bella one'. And then asking many, many questions. "What's his name? Why is Edward climbing up the tree like this? (mimics him climbing fast with Bella on his back) Why is Edward kissing Bella?"

Last weekend our friends came over for supper. They gave me the awesome early Christmas gift of a Twilight poster. Miss A was pleased about it and informed me that it was Bella and Edward on the poster, then I believe she asked to see 'the Bella one'.

Today, while in the car she noticed the CD case of the soundtrack and she asked to listen to it. I told her we already were. She was delighted because she has been singing and humming along to it for weeks now. She asked to hold the case and after pointing out that Edward and Bella were on the cover she preceded to clutch it all the way home.

I think the real kicker was this past weekend when we went to Madagascar 2. This was her very first time in a movie theater. We went because Peter's work reserved the theater as a kids Christmas function. Her attention span waned a little at times during the movie and it scared her a few times but overall I think she enjoyed it. Santa was waiting for the kids as they came out. They were able to say hello and get a little present from him. Miss A thought that was kind of cool but as we continued to the exit she said "I want to see Bella!" (Which was a little confusing for those of you who know us.) Peter was the one who figured out she meant. She wanted to go and see the life size cardboard cut out of Bella and Edward at the front entrance of the theater. She happily pointed them out to us and the young girl at the ticket counter (seemingly a fan) cooed "AWWW! That's so cute!!" To which I replied "Is it cute? Or is it weird and kind of creepy that my three year old knows who they are?" Not to mention that after that she seemed to forget all about the fact that she'd just seen Santa. Sigh. I think I'm going to be in trouble when she gets to be a teenager.

I Promise I Won't Spoil Anything

That said I will reference. So for anyone who hasn't read the book skip this post or read it and don't be mad, I warned you.

So. I saw Twilight last night. And I had to write about it. Not the movie really, but the experience.

I haven't gone to a special showing of a movie on opening night for a long, long time. Peter and I were discussing the one's we've gone to and all we could come up with were 'X-Files Fight the Future' and each of the Matrix sequels. And I can say that for me at least, my anticipation for Twilight was the greatest.

Since Peter has also read the series it was important to me that we saw it together for the first time. He had volunteered to babysit but I found a babysitter so that we could both go. We went with my fifteen year old niece and a friend of mine. We arrived almost an hour and a half early. There was already a small line up but we were sure to have good seats. Other friends of mine were ahead of us in line and they ended up sitting in front of us so while we waited for the movie to begin we all had a good, hyper visit.

The crowd was pretty diverse. A lot of teens, some with, some without their Mom's. A couple of hardcore girls with official Twilight T-shirts. There were also some almost gothy looking 20 somethings who sat behind us and they were acting too cool to be there. They amused the heck out of me because they were trying to be all 'I don't care' yet there they were at the sold out show. It's not like they just decided on a whim to come because they had nothing better to do. And I heard them muttering at the teens to 'Stop texting!' and then 'The movie's starting, shut up!'

There were audible cheers and applause as the lights went down. (Some of which may have come from me, it's a blur. Ha!) The most memorable trailer was for this movie which I hadn't heard of but I'm not very excited to see. Wow, Dakota Fanning is growing up. And I think she's going to make it. I'm so glad because I think she is an amazing actress and I'd hate to see her end up being 'that child star'. I digress.

So it begins. I had the most bizarre warm feeling inside my body the entire movie. I actually enjoyed the experience of watching it with other avid fans of all ages. I thought they behaved themselves rather well. * If you don't want to know anything about what is in the movie even though you've read the book and can guess skip to the next paragraph. The only time I was confused with the crowd reaction was during the classroom scene where Edward first catches Bella's potent scent. Here is Edward Cullen obviously in pain, tormented - and the crowd starts laughing. It was the sort of reaction only a large group of people who'd read the book would have. Maybe it was nervous laughter? Who knows? Anyway, it was weird.

*Maybe skip this one too. I was happy that they took a lot of lines directly from the book. I was also impressed with some of the lines they added that were either very funny or touching. And I can't keep this one to myself, when Edward first speaks in the movie I think Robert Pattinson may have channeled Edward Scissorhands. Just that scared, socially awkward thing and his tone of voice. Don't let that turn you off though. It worked and yet was very amusing to me.

There were also parts were I had to fan myself with my hand because they were so romantically intense and beautiful. Unfortunately there were as many of those times in the movie as there were in the book but I wasn't expecting there to be so I wasn't disappointed.

I found myself feeling sad as I knew we were approaching the end. I took comfort in the fact that I'll be seeing it again on Sunday night. When it was over there were cheers and applause again and the gothy 20 somethings mocked saying 'Oh my God Twilight!!' in shrill voices. I couldn't keep my mouth shut and piped up. (indirectly) I don't remember what I said but it seemed to shut them up. I just couldn't take any more of their we're too cool to be there crap.

I was relieved when my niece broke down in the car afterwards clapping her hands saying "That was so good!!!" I was beginning to feel like a bit of a loser for being more excited than a 15 year old.

And I have said nothing of the experience of watching it with Peter. We laughed at all the same parts, swooned (I think) at all the same parts and agreed on the parts we thought were cheesy or lame. Though we both needed our sleep we lay in bed for a long while last night whispering about it. I am so glad I married someone who I have so much in common with and whose company I enjoy so much. Being married to him is like getting to have the best sleepover (or slumpover) party every night.

Anyway, go to the movie.

Obsessions

I know I've written many posts and linked many videos about Twilight. But this a honest to goodness thoughtful and serious one.

This Saturday some of the cast visited Much Music for an hour long 'Twilight Special'. Being the devoted fan that I am, I tuned in. I have watched a few short videos of the casts public appearances. It's amusing at first, all the screaming, but it gets old fast. Which is why I've only ever watched the short videos. But this live appearance at Much was basically an hour long scream fest. It was, frankly, a bit much. I started feeling like a bit of a knob for watching it. Actually, I started feeling uncomfortable.

Here are these poor, drenched, freezing kids, who'd stood outside (some for TWO DAYS!) waiting for their chance to see the stars of this movie. Although it likely won't be followed up on I have absolutely no doubt that many of these kids will end up with pneumonia. They'll be sitting in the theater when the movie comes out, deathly ill, hacking their guts out, tears streaming down their faces because "OMG, it's just so beautiful!" (Right now being a fan kinda feels like getting caught playing Bratz dolls in your bedroom.)

It got me thinking about how I'd feel as a parent if my girls wanted to go and stand in the rain for two days to see something/someone they were obsessed with. Would I let them go? I want to say 'no way'. Peter says 'no way'. But the thing is I'm still young enough to be in touch with the 15 year old girl that I was. They girl who wore a gold band on my left ring finger and a single gold sleeper in my left ear so I could be like Robert Smith. Would I have stood in the rain for two days for the chance to meet him up close? Heck yeah. Would my mother have let me? I can safely say, no.

So how far is too far? At what point as a parent do you decide an 'interest' has become too intense? Can you do anything about it? I mean, obviously you can prevent them from spending two days in the rain and getting hypothermia but you can't control their thoughts. As I mentioned, I LOVED Robert Smith. I LOVED The Cure. Still do actually. Many times I sat in my room weeping over songs that I thought were so beautiful, so perfect. I had dozens of their posters plastered all over my wall. My obsession influenced my clothing, my jewelry, my hair color (not style ha ha!), my choice of alcohol. Did it hurt me? Well, I didn't go out on many dates but in the long term, no. I still love the band. I'm still a rather obsessive person (gasp! you're kidding!) but in a much more low key way. (yes, really.)

I don't think it's a bad thing to feel deeply about things. I do think that it's worth talking about. No one ever talked to me about why I felt so strongly about The Cure, or anything else I was crazy over. They just shook their heads, teased me or ignored it. I plan to do things differently. I'd like to know what my kids are passionate about and why. I'd like to have conversations with them about it. Perhaps sway them on things that I may not particularly be too happy about them loving. But I'll never be able to do that if I don't listen and really want to hear what they have to say.

So when the day comes that my girls are asking to do something outrageous because of their undying devotion to whatever I will seriously consider and weigh the pros and cons before laughing in their faces and saying "Absolutely not!"

YouTubesday

Yet another Twilight obsessed YouTube. It was shown at the MTV movie awards. 58 seconds is FAR too short. The video may be taken down within the day though.

Dora Dora. It's the only thing she wants to watch. Not only that but specifically this episode. What could be better than Dora AND Santa? Nothing. That's what.

Only Two Months To Go

I think everyone gets a little frustrated when the stores start putting Christmas merchandise out in September. I know I do.

Unfortunately Christmas has come a little early around these parts as well. At some point 'Baby Santa' was played for Miss A. Now she can't get enough of it. She requests it all the time. So here were are, in October, listening to Christmas carols and watching Santa parachute past the screen...

Oh well. The things we do to make our kids happy.

For now, here are some fall pictures.

Mistake

I'm convinced that someone must have switched babies with me at the hospital. I didn't notice it until yesterday while driving to the gym. We were listening to The Cure and when I looked back to smile at Miss A she had her fingers in her ears as if to block out the music. It was then I decided there had to be some kind of mistake. No child of mine would ever do such a thing...

Swallowed

Thanks to Bon and also to Elizasmom for loving the book 'Twilight' and telling me about it. I purchased it last Wednesday and finished it yesterday. It is approximately 500 pages. I'm not sure if I have ever read a book so fast and certainly not since having Miss A. I always used the excuse that I “didn't have time”. Obviously I can find time if the right book comes along.

And did it ever. I have an extremely obsessive personality. When something grabs a hold of me the way things sometimes do it becomes difficult for me to think about anything else. This was exaggerated most between the years of 15 and 19. The things that I loved possessed me. I wanted everyone I knew to love them just as much and I talked about them endlessly. Looking back it's a wonder I had any friends.

I was fanatical about The Cure. I wore a gold band on my wedding finger and a single gold sleeper in my left ear... because that is the jewelry that Robert Smith wore. (I know, pathetic...) At least I didn't wear my hair the same! I was also in love with the show “Life Goes On”. Especially the Jesse and Becca storyline. It killed me. On a lighter note I was also obsessed with “The Kids in the Hall”. When I was 18 I had the opportunity to see them perform live. I very nearly hyperventilated when we first went to our seats, which were very close to the stage. Then when my favorite troupe member Dave Foley said his first line I involuntarily screamed “I LOVE YOU!!!” at him. I was immediately mortified. They all paused and Dave seemed to be blushing. Then after only missing a beat they incorporated my statement into the poker sketch. “Well I DON'T love you and I raise you $5.”

In my young adult years most of my obsessiveness was directed at television shows. A short list would be X-Files, Dark Angel, Buffy, Angel and Roswell. They all contained the draw of a forbidden love. I guess that is what sucks me in, I find it irresistible. And this leads me back to the book 'Twilight'. This book is so full of forbidden love it made my head spin, gave me goosebumps and kept me reading until all hours. It was delicious and I devoured it. And I'm already reading the sequel. Which had me in tears for about an hour last night. Silently weeping beside my sleeping husband. Stifling sobs. But it is wonderful. Wonderful to feel this part of me come alive again. It reminds me of who I am.

I'm not all about “Old MacDonald had a Farm”, Elmo, and poopy diapers. Though that is a huge part of who I am right now. I also still possess the ability to obsess over fictional characters to a degree that frightens me, frankly. It makes me question how solid my sanity is. How can a nearly 31 year old woman feel this strongly about people that only exist on the pages of a book? But a movie is in the works as well. Lord help me!

More Addictive than Crack Cocaine

Facebook. Have you heard of it yet? Chances are either you have already joined or you have had a hundred emails from people inviting you to join. Honestly I really don't know whether or not to tell you to join up or to “Run. Run and never look back!” A friend 'invited me to join' a couple of months ago. I was thinking, “What is this? I have to join some group to look at pictures of her new baby?” But I did it anyway. And I thought I'd never use it. And I didn't at first. I'm not sure when I went overboard but I finally started to see it's merits. Randomly typing in people's names and finding them. Requesting that they 'be my friend'. Then people started to find me. Then it was all over before the end of the first round.

I'm not sure I can properly explain what it is and how it works. You have your own facebook page on which you can put as much or as little information about yourself as you like. You can upload pictures and make albums which your friends are able to peruse and make comments on if they like. You have a 'wall' which is viewable to anyone who can see you page. This is where people leave comments for you like “Hey! How's it going? I haven't seen you in forever!!” Another cool feature is that you can send a message to your friends, which is basically an email sent through the facebook program. If the friend you are sending the message to happens to be on their facebook page at the time they will get it immediately and possibly send a message right back which then makes it a lot like instant messaging which is also cool. You also get updates on what your friends are doing and any pictures they upload. Am I selling this?

Why you ask? The only thing I can say is that seeing my friends faces filter through my friend display window makes me think “Hey! Look, it's so and so. I should really send them a message.” So in a way, it forces you to be a good friend and keep in touch. And makes it more convenient to do so.

You know what I think would be really cool? If all of my good bloggy friends (you know who you are!) who know me and know I'm not actually a 50 year old man posing as a young mother to talk to other young moms, would sign up for facebook and be my 'friend's. That way I could keep in even better touch with you. We could possibly get to know each other even better, although that's hard to imagine since I write way more personal stuff on my blog than I do on my facebook. So if you're interested just send me an email about it. Come on. If you have a blog you're pretty much a computer geek already. The next step is to get on facebook.

YouTubesday

Today YouTubesday will take us on a trip down memory lane. To a show that first aired in the late 80's and ended during my grade eleven year. “Life Goes On” had a huge impact on me. Especially the relationship between Jesse and Becca. During most episodes of the fourth season I was reduced to a sobbing, hysterical puddle on the floor at some point. The first five minutes of this particular episode nearly killed me and I was so upset that I distinctly remember my sister shocked at seeing me in such a state, reminding me “It's just a television show!” I had to splash cold water on my face during the commercial break to gain composure.

I forced anyone who was friends with me at that time to watch episodes that I had on tape and LIKE them, or else. Looking back it's a shock I had any friends at all. My love of this show at that time could not be described by any other word than obsession! I have calmed down a bit over the years but other shows that ranked up there in the obsessive category were “My So Called Life”, “X-Files”, “Dark Angel”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”. I am SUCH a shipper.

Anyway, here is a video of the wrap up of a great series.
